Katie Stewart
Partner at gunnercooke,
specialising in Family Law
Katie Stewart started her career in family law in 2014 and is consistently recognised as a Key Lawyer in the Legal 500. Katie has a particular specialism in representing survivors of domestic abuse, in particular psychological abuse, emotional abuse, and coercive control, and is known for her compassionate, client-centred approach during extremely difficult periods in people's lives.
Katie works closely with clients across family law matters involving children and finances, helping them navigate the legal system with clarity and confidence. She is deeply attuned to the profound impact that abuse and high-conflict proceedings can have on children and their long-term wellbeing, particularly in a system that does not always understand and recognise the complexities of coercive control and psychological abuse.
A passionate advocate for accessible and transparent legal support, Katie regularly gives talks on domestic abuse and is committed to helping survivors, many of whom feel overwhelmed and uncertain, find safety, confidence, and hope for the future.
Katie believes strongly that the legal process should empower, not intimidate, and works tirelessly to ensure her clients feel informed, supported, and in control at every stage.
